They are telling me its because of the new exhaust. I have search on the forum and havent found much help. Does anyone know how to fix this? The cats were removed is this causing the problem? If you removed the cats then yes that's causing the problem.
The system is telling you exactly that, your cats not working or the sensor is missing. After reading that a few times I realized how obvious the answer is Bartkat is right Btw, how did Lexus not void your warranty? Maybe high-flow aftermarkets would help but I don't know for sure. I heard a rumor about people making some sort of electronic simulator to trick the car into thinking that the CATs are still installed.
However this is very illegal and I would not know anything about perpetrating such violent and hatful acts against our dear Mother Earth.
And how much of the exhaust was replaced? It sounds like you went from the headers back? And they removed the cats? Somethings not right here. If they removed the cats, they put in more than an "axle back" exhaust system. The cats are way further up the line. And any even "semi" knowledgeable tech would know that you can't just delete the cats and put the 02 sensors back in and not throw a cel.
The sensors before and after the cats read temp and nox gasses. Who is this GHL Motorsports place? Did they talk to you at all about this before they did the work? Yeah they talked to me beforehand and said I have a total of 4 cats 2 by the manifold and 2 midway, the 2 that they deleted are the midways. What exhaust system did you put in? Tbh, I would put the cats back in.
You not improving the air flow any by just removing those 2 cats. Unless a Mazzuri header is in your future also. Then I would do the sims ans you would need that anyway then. But if your not doing anything else to the exhaust, then I would just put the cats back on then. I am in Australia and have the same issues.
We replaced the whole exhaust system with stainless headers, new mufflers and larger diameter pipe and acheived the increase in performance we were after. We then had the same issue with the VSC light coming on with no cats installed so we then installed high flow cats and unfortunately still the same issue.
Installing the original cats will fix the problem but then it will also delete the performance gains acheived by installing the sytem and high flows. The error can be easily reset but lasts for about a day then comes on again. Woud love an answer to the problem as besides the lights being very annoying when driving, having the VSC work again when my wife is driving would be great.

The P code is quite the common trouble code. In order for the car to be able to keep a reasonably low emission of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and oxides of nitrogen, a three-way catalytic converter is used by the engine control system. Within the converter is the catalyst which promotes a chemical reaction that oxidizes the CO and HC within the exhaust gas. It is through this chemical reaction that HC and CO are converted into carbon dioxide and water vapor that is basically harmless.
Moreover, this reaction also effectively reduces the NOx and then converts it into Nitrogen. This process is monitored using Bank 2, which is located inside of the exhaust stream at the three-way catalytic converter. Basically, the P code is a trouble code used to indicate that the sensor in the catalytic converter located in bank 2 has detected that the converter is not working properly.

I've not noticed any MPG loss or loss of power whatsoever!
So am I safe to assume its not the catalysts? Only other thing I could think of is an o2 sensor gone bad perhaps? I don't want to spend money really as I'm about to sell the car for a more economical one for my miles per day commute to work!

It is probably one of four things. In theory the later shouldn't occur, you should get an error code related to the sensor which is actually faulty however this isn't always the case. I would think it is unlikely to be the cat however they don't normally suddenly fail, their efficiency reduces slowly over time so you may not notice a sudden drop in performance or economy. Without further diagnosis by monitoring the sensors whilst the engine is running it is difficult to advise where the fault is.
Personally I would guess that it is one of the upstream sensors - these tend to fail first as they are subjected to the most amount of heat. Sorry for late reply, this is the first time I've checked back since my post! Thanks for the responce, the cars now on k so its had a fair few miles of heat, carbon and fumes being filtered through them! Its also as you say not the easiest diagnosis seeing as it will need to be driven while monitoring upstream and downstream sensor readings!
I managed to do miles the other day without it coming on! Then not long after i exited the motorway in reading it decided to come on! I wonder if a bottle of cataclean would perhaps help the isse? I'm slightly worried now I think about it, that I used ZX1 extralube in with my oil and wondered if perhaps this additive could of had an adverse affect on the cats. It does say catalyst safe on the instructions but it seems a coincidence that it came on not much longer after I used it within a week!

I'ver heard people have used regular gas and premium. Also, if the car I buy has always used regular gas and I start using premium, will it damage the car at all? The owner's manual specifies premium, although it includes a caveat about regular being OK in a pinch, but to expect reduced performance. If they used regular before, will it hurt to switch to premium? Of course not. Could you always use regular? But consider Do you really think me, you or anyone here knows more about what fuel the car should use than the engineers that designed it?
Manufacturers also know that people generally want lower gas costs, if they thought regular would be OK, they wouldn't specifiy premium. Assume premium costs 20 cents a gallon more, you drive 15K miles a year and the car gets 25 mpg, all about right.
All you have to do is continue filling up with premium. Will you get better performance from it? Yes and no. People severely misunderstand octane ratings. All grades of similar energy potentials, similar amounts of detergent, and oils.
Simply put higher octane gas require higher activation energy thus avoiding detonation pre - ignition or knocking. Knocking can dstroy an engine, however, most newer cars retard timing thus reducing knocking but killing performance and mileage. Many argue that most cars don't benefit from higher octane but I tend to disagree. Unless you disable the knock sensor premium gass chances are you can expect some improvements.

The piston travels down to bring in air and gas whether injected or mixed with air from carburetor. As the piston travels up in compresses the mixture which causes HEAT. In higher comprssion engines higher octane is a must as the compression will surely cause detonation usually around ratio. Depending on the engines timing is when the cyclinder ignites Most people misconstrue this portion of operation.
The objection is to BURN the gas. This is done through igniting before the piston gets to the top. Explosions are bad news. A higher octane rating helps make the engine more reliable but not necessarily better performance other than preventing knock senor retardation. I highly rcommend premium and if you do the math it really doesn't cost much more.
If the engine was set up for a specific octane you should use only that. The computer tells the engine what mixture of air and fuel it needs to be most efficient. These mixtures will differ with different octane preferences.
So, long story short, using a different octane than recommended can harm horse power because the system is either running too rich or too lean. Use the octane rating the car is designed for.
